Interview tips
A few simple habits make a big difference — whether it’s your first interview or your twentieth.
Before
- Read the job page twice. Note the must-haves and prepare one example for each.
- Plan the trip. For an in-person interview, check the address, entrance and parking or route on the job or interview details, and leave extra time.
- Bring copies, not originals, of your résumé and CSEC results, plus one form of ID if asked.
- Test your connection and a quiet spot for phone or video interviews.
Questions to prepare for
- “Tell me about yourself.” Two sentences: where you are now, what you’re good at, why this role.
- “Why this company?” Mention something real from their profile or job page.
- “Tell me about a time you helped a customer, a teammate or fixed a problem.” Use a short story: situation, what you did, what happened.
- “What are your pay expectations?” It’s fine to ask for the range first. If the job page says “Not disclosed”, you can ask politely.
During
- Greet everyone, listen to the whole question, and it’s fine to pause before answering.
- Ask about the team, hours, shifts and training.
- You shouldn’t have to share bank details, passwords or pay anything. Your TRN and NIS number are needed after you’re hired, not to interview.
After
- Send a short thank-you the same day if you have a contact.
- Ask when you’ll hear back, and follow up once if that date passes.
- If you’re not chosen, ask politely for feedback — it helps next time.
